I thought “where the hell does Twitch keep coming up with these absurd sex-related things to ban?” and it turns out it’s just this one lady and inventing them is her shtick and she’s single-handedly keeping like five journalists employed.
Morgpie is stimulating … the economy.
The fact that this is not her first time border-lining the policy, at some point they are just going to drop the hammer (again). They are hesitant on it though cause, big viewers and creators lead to big income sources, but eventually the powers that may be that are higher then twitch are going to give a nudge.
Earlier this month, she streamed herself playing Fortnite with the gameplay projected on her butt.
Amazingly inventive.
Yeah, she should be rewarded, not penalized.
Twitch should just make four sections of their service:
- kids - strict policing of content
- normie - basically what we have now
- adult - nudity is fine, but have some limits
- porn
Normie would be the default, and anything else is opt-in.
Not going to happen anytime soon because advertisers and payment processors with the lowest fee wouldn’t touch sites that contain adult contents, even if said contents are not visible by default.
They could always just make a family of connected sites. That could be subdomains (kids.twitch.com or whatever) or separate domains, but all linked to the same creator account. So a creator would tag a stream as belonging to one of those categories, and it would be assessed and hosted on that category of host.
I don’t see how that would solve anything. That would just result in people streaming in the “normie” classification, but pushing the limits as far as they could go.
That’s what we have now, and this would give them an option to target a different demographic.
That’s what we have now
Which, I think most people agree, sucks.
this would give them an option to target a different demographic
They already have that option. They could stream on cam sites dedicated to adult content if they wanted to do adult content. They don’t do that because they want to reach Twitch viewers not porn viewers. But, they know they get more attention from the Twitch viewers if they’re doing nearly-porn.
they won’t do this because if they actually allow porn, they’d be banned entirely from some countries
Just give it a different domain or something, and have single sign-on enabled so users can easily move between services. If a country blocks one, users can use the rest.
I heard a big issue with this is usually payment providers, Visa being a big one that has blocked processing based off nudity before. If they did do it like this, they would keep their income on the main site but, they likely would lose the ability to have income sources outside of advertising (the ones that still will) on the nude friendly version. At that point they likely just would just drop the service anyway cause it wouldn’t be profitable for them.
I don’t see why they wouldn’t just have you buy credits or something. So you’d buy X “Twitch bucks,” which you could use for kids, regular, or adult parts of the site (the porn section, if it exists, could have a different payment system).
you already can buy twitch gift cards and they can be used for subs and bit purchases, the issue is getting that currency over to the explicit version of the site without getting the providers in a tizzy. The bottom line is they don’t want to be associated with content like that, so if they learn that it can be bought and then used for it they’ll threaten to pull the plug. They could try to use a different payment system with a vendor that has a higher broker fee but, there aren’t many out there, there’s a reason that VISA is seen everywhere.
Then you still have the problems of moderation and trying to make sure all the porn is on one website
Yes, but if there’s a supported method of posting content, I think fewer people would push the boundaries. Creators could even have one interface to manage all of their content, and then just pick the target audience for a given stream. Viewers could see all content for the given site and everything under it (so if you’re on “adult,” you’d see “twitch” and “kids” but not “porn”).
Or something along those lines.
But the people from countries where porn is banned are a huge source of revenue for the sexual streamers, that’s the point of doing it on twitch
They should use a VPN. Or get creative . :)
I don’t want to see adult content when I’m watching a stream a work or when my kids come ask me a question, so I want control over that. Splitting the app into groups where adult content is opt-in is a great way to do that.
Morality policing is dumb. If she wants to stream through her chest or butt, more power to her.
It’s the advertisement companies that are far behind the times. They ruin everything they touch because they are so sensitive to Karen types.
Doesn’t Twitch make most of its money through donations, and the insanely high cut Twitch takes from them?
They still need to use payment processors, right? Those payment processors wouldn’t allow adult contents. Those that do, charge significantly more for each transaction.
I find it hard to believe Amazon can’t roll their own payment processor.
Kinda hard to do that when Visa themself don’t like their card to be used for user-generated porns.
We don’t know because Twitch is owned by Amazon and they don’t give out the financial info of that subsidiary. It could well be that Amazon is subsidizing Twitch as a strategic move.
Best guess is subs and bits make the most:
Market research company Nielsen estimates that Twitch brought in revenue from all sources of about $2 billion in 2020.6
…
The parent company reportedly has set a target of $1 billion a year in advertising alone from Twitch. Most guesstimates suggest that it has not yet reached that level.
If that’s accurate, ads make up less than half, with the rest being merch, subs, and bits. I’m guessing subs and bits are the biggest piece of the pie (if we combine them), followed by ads.
Wait you can buy bits? I thought they were earnt by watchtime and clicking on a little button next to chat.
you are thinking of points, partners have channel points(that they can name whatever) that you earn as you watch them. those can be used for channel redemption. Bits are paid for currency that lets you do different things per streamer depending on what they have setup.
Yup, it’s like $1 for 100 bits or something.
We need people to ditch these corporate shit hole platforms. All of the technology is becoming come all the ties and so anyone can just whip one of these up on their computer and serve it to the world, the only really bureaucratic restrictions exist preventing this
Streaming video to millions of people isn’t just something anyone could whip up and run. It requires an ungodly amount of infrastructure and the only reason twitch and YouTube can keep going is because Amazon and Google own millions of servers world wide
you use bittorrent. peertube can do this already and while I’m unsure about what already existing tech you can use for streaming it can’t be that complicated
It can’t be that complicated
It literally is though
You don’t know half of it. It’s incredibly costly, takes up a shitload of infrastructure and cannot be improvised by just trying to “torrent it”
If we can’t see games on boobs and butts then what are we even doing here?
Touching neither grass nor ass.
But I do have gas, so there’s that.
At this point Twitch slowly but surely became OnlyFans 2.0
Twitch has always been about whoring. And I’m not just talking about girls showing cleavage or whatever. People whore for their viewers to donate, and the viewers whore for their senpais to notice them. It’s just an annoying concept. inb4 “there’s exceptions, especially for smaller streamers” - I know, I don’t care. It’s just a matter of time and growth potential for most. It’s part of the commercialization and it happens even on YT now too.
Me watching Vinesauce just play games and talk about music or whatever: 💀
Yup. That’s why I only watch one Twitch streamer (seems to not care about than nonsense) and a dozen or so YouTube channels (most are also decent). I’ve tried watching the more mainstream channels, and it’s pure cancer.
I agree, the concept in general is incredibly annoying and why I am actively looking for alternatives elsewhere. I’d much prefer a model like Nebula (signup is $5/month) or Odysee (platform fees; Odysee channels set their own prices). Or maybe a pay-per-watch micropayment option through something like GNU Taler (let me watch the first 30s or so for free, then pay to continue).
But the current ad and public tip model just encourages distasteful behavior.
i dont get what you said because half the words are censored.
gotta love when websites treat you like an 8yr old
After you read it, come join us! https://sh.itjust.works/signup
(lemmy.ml is censoring right? tsk tsk)
i just fucking might. are you guys federating with zucc?
200 sh.itjust.works users voted not to federate with Threads. Far fewer in favor.
Man, censoring words as a platform is such an advertiser-suck-up strategy that it’s wild an instance in the fediverse would even consider it. Really rubs me the wrong way!

There’s always a niche. Nobody thought anyone would care enough to watch them play video games badly but here we are. Really if you set a cam in your league and have half funny commentators who know their stuff people would watch.
Look at speed running too, it’s even more niche than just playing games and it gets millions of dollars a year too.
It seems to me like there’s a big market for sexual video game streamers. A site that came along and allowed it might even dethrone twitch if done well.
Only Fans is trying to get into video. This is probably what they should be doing, not whatever that TV thing is
I think being rebellious and creative is part of the fun.
Chaturbate already has streams of girls mostly talking, but Twitch is the biggest so they go there to advertise.
Blows my mind that MindGeek or whatever they are called now still haven’t launched a YT/Twitch competitor.
Video games, Twitch, and Boobs are all things teenage boys generally like, and they have a lot of free time to consume media. Im 100000% certain thats all this is all about, that that’s the sole driving force behind all this. Nobody wants to say it but twitch is porn for kids

I was literally just saying this in a meeting with my boss today that since the invention of Twitch, there has just been too many boobs on the Internet.
Iike without twitch, there would be a perfect amount of boobs on the Internet, but you know those thirst streamers they force you watch before you can view any other content really just pushed the whole thing over the edge.
You know what there’s too much of on the Internet these days? Squares that don’t understand sarcasm and tone.
I also blame Twitch. Before there were boobies in the way of my gaming streams, people had to read into the covered up boobies all over the Internet. Now there’s just boobies on display everywhere and you don’t have to think about anything.
That was a work conversation with your boss??
Yes we were both jerking off onto a waffle.
Was it a blue waffle?
“Because of twitch there are too many boobs”
LOL
Sir, this is nonsense. There can’t be enough boobs on the internet.
I’m sorry they force you to watch certain streamers? I don’t use twitch, wtf is that about?
I DO use Twitch and I don’t know what they’re talking about.

They’re worried about advertisers getting upset over the content and pulling out
Something something sex joke about pulling out.
deleted by creator
They care a lot
Advertisers.
If you were a bank or a energy company would you want your advert on potentially sexual content, and I use that in looses possible sense.
It stems for an incident years ago where a “journalist” spam refreshed a ISIS video on YouTube until they saw a VW advert and they ran a massive story about VW financing ISIS via YouTube. I may get getting some details wrong about the story.

Tons of kids use their platform, so sexualized content, even lightly sexualized content like this, is sorta questionable.
Also advertisers.
deleted by creator
That hasn’t been my experience at all. I feel like you don’t actually use Twitch, but even if you’re right it’s “tu quoque”. Neither party should be showing sexualized content in a space largely occupied by children.
deleted by creator
I said spaces largely occupied by children shouldn’t host sexualized content. It’s telling that you have an issue with that.
deleted by creator
literally antidemocratic
Twitch isn’t a state-owned company. 🤷♀️ The only vote they care about is the advertiser’s.
If you think it’s appropriate to allow sexualized content on a streaming service centered around a hobby dominated by children, make your own.
Im an avid twitch user. Please put down the pitchforks you may have from the title. This is her whole schtick (morgpie), finding creative ways around the censorship. Yes she does sex work, but she’s also a great streamer in her own right and is actually playing the games on screen. She constatly holds a chat of like 4k people and streams for HOURS. You can only horny watch for so long, at a certain point people are staying because they just enjoy her personality and stories.
Like this is fucking hilarious. Subjectively ofc, but If my owlverweight man ass were to do the same thing, everyone would just be laughing at me.
but she’s also a great streamer in her own right and is actually playing the games on screen. She constatly holds a chat of like 4k people and streams for HOURS. You can only horny watch for so long, at a certain point people are staying because they just enjoy her personality and stories.
It’s called fostering parasocial relationships for profit and it’s not something we should encourage.
Other than the boobs and butts the description fits 99% of people streaming gameplay and interacting with fans.
Yeah, we shouldn’t encourage that either.
…I’m more serious about this than I’d like to be.
Thats a fair and valid point. I can see how that could lead to whale like spending behavior vying for attention.
Or have a dude steal $250,000.00 from his family for a cam model and then murder his family when they caught him and tried to get him to stop
It does, and it’s also a thing on larger channels. When you put people’s names on screen for donations, you get that whale behavior.
A Twitch streamer I like handles this pretty well, yet there are still “whales” who spend easily thousands per year on their channel, and it’s a small-ish channel (like 10-20k total as the top channel in a niche game; <100k followers). The streamer acknowledges bits and subs (calls out how many months they’ve subbed and total gifted subs as relevant), but otherwise doesn’t simp for bits or subs. They even stopped mentioning out-of-band donations unless specifically asked to. Yet the whale behavior still persists because it’s a way to stand out in front of others. I can even name the top handful of donators because they make themselves so visible.
I don’t like it at all, and wish there was another platform where I can pay for content and not get that nonsense. Nebula is close, but it just doesn’t have the content I’m interested in.
fostering parasocial relationships for profit
that is onlyfans whole deal
It is not only Onlyfans whole deal, but that is how all celebrity worship works.
I’m with you. If someone wants to watch ass Fortnite why should I care?
People will forever pearl clutch.
Yes she does sex work, but she’s also a great streamer in her own right and is actually playing the games on screen.
That’s like saying the porn stars are actually acting. Nobody watches porn movies for the acting.
She constatly holds a chat of like 4k people and streams for HOURS.
Those are her “m’lady” fedora-wearing parasocial white knights, willing to give her all the monies.
You can only horny watch for so long, at a certain point people are staying because they just enjoy her personality and stories.
No, at a certain point, they are going to her OnlyFans page to whack off for 5-10 minutes and then returning back to her stream. She does this to popularize herself for her real sex work, which pays real money.
Subjectively ofc, but If my owlverweight man ass were to do the same thing, everyone would just be laughing at me.
That’s kind of the problem, and it’s a big reason why male streamers are annoyed by how female streamers present themselves on Twitch. Hell, even female streamers who just want to play games are annoyed at this shit.
Keep sex work at the sex work web sites.
it would be nice to have twitch just be for streaming again without sex crap on there.
there are so many places to stream sexy content. why can’t we have one that doesn’t?
That’s kind of the problem, and it’s a big reason why male streamers are annoyed by how female streamers present themselves on Twitch. Hell, even female streamers who just want to play games are annoyed at this shit.
Maybe people just aren’t that into streamers and what they actually want is the sexed up stuff with some gaming on the side.
Wait, the Morgpie?
If its the same one who does porn, why watch her boob streams on twitch when you can watch her get stuffed on pornhub? I don’t get it
I guess because sex has to be included everywhere now. we can’t just have places for normal streamers to go.
it’s very annoying.
Gonna do a twitch.tv horny stream speedrun, let’s go
Two fucking seconds holy shit.
I was trying to prove that the problem isn’t as bad as everyone says, but damn it’s gotten worse since the last time I checked
Yeah I hate it when I am just trying to watch TV and someone keeps coming into my house and putting porn on and I say “hey buddy, why do you keep coming into my house and putting porn on the TV? One of these days I’m going to have enough of it, and then I’m going to post about it on the internet. You’ll see.”
I’m not entirely sure what this comment was for. because adult content gets suggested to me on twitch.
I am not against titty streamers, but there’s websites dedicated to that already. we can have one place free of that, surely.
So the concept of a space designated for one thing doesn’t make any sense to you? Like at all?
Exactly, I keep saying “buddy, this TV isn’t made for porn. It is designated for one thing, and that’s not porn. I don’t know why you keep putting porn on this TV instead of your own TV which comes with an official porn rating.” Dude just doesn’t get it.
You really think there aren’t any normal streamers on Twitch?
They were forced to leave because of all the boobies.
I never said there weren’t normal streamers on twitch.
TIL she’s on pornhub
TIL she’s on twitch lol
On twitch they can spend thousands to have hear read something that they wrote to her. Maybe if they keep it up she will like them. After all 99.9% of all parasocial relationships end just before you get a real date.
After all 99.9% of all parasocial relationships end just before you get a real date.
Or right after you lose your job/income.
It’s not because of the porn but because of the taboo. You’re not supposed to be seeing porn on twitch so her pushing the envelope appeals to a bunch of people.
I can see this for a small percentage of adult users but tbh it’s probably just praying on the sexualities of quite young boys (think 9-11 range) that know they like women’s bodies but don’t know about or are ashamed of watching porn
Nah it’s because porn is literally illegal in a lot of countries, so sexy Twitch streams are trying to fill that niche.
Perhaps if I like video games and didn’t enjoy watching people get stuffed?
Just crop the video to show her top half, remove the background from the video and overlay it on some gameplay footage and boom, best of both worlds.
Yes but you’re not one of the horny watchers. Those are the people I’m talking about
Meh. I’ve certainly viewed hot girl gamers before. I think it’s fine to hold two feelings at once and not falsely equate them.
Just let it happen at this point. I get the idea of trying to moderate the content so that it’s not a bunch of thirst streams and so that there are actually people doing various activities on there, but people act like this because it gets views.
Just let people get it out of their systems. Might take a few years, but eventually there will be people looking to watch regular people playing video games, making art, playing music or just talking again.
It’s not really Twitch’s fault. Twitch doesn’t care about sexual content, they’re a company they don’t have morals. They’d be more than happy to rake in those dollars. The problem are advertisers and payment processors who have very strict views/policies on stuff like this and Twitch has to kowtow to them if they want to be in business.
So many sites have this happen to them, where they allow or even encourage sexual expression and then a payment processor comes in and says “yeah if you don’t cut out that we’re dropping you” and then it’s over.
It is kowtow fyi

I don’t think this will ever die down, look at porn sites, those are still going strong to the point that blocking access to them causes political problems.
Twitch is only against this because a good portion of their user-base (and more importantly advertising companies/investors) don’t want to be part of that.
This is the best summary I could come up with:
According to the update, starting March 29th, “content that focuses on intimate body parts for a prolonged period of time will not be allowed.”
The move is, without a doubt, a targeted response to the new Twitch “meta” wherein streamers project gameplay onto a green-screened part of their bodies, specifically the breasts or buttocks.
During her stream today, she wore a green screen cut-out shirt making her head and chest the only parts of her a viewer could see.
Others capitalized on the new meta by projecting gameplay on various body parts, but with today’s announcement, such activity will become a bannable offense.
In December, Twitch relaxed it’s nudity policy to allow “deliberately highlighted breasts, buttocks or pelvic region,” so long as the stream had the appropriate content label.
The company immediately rescinded the policy after streamers pushed the boundaries of it, stating, “Upon reflection, we have decided that we went too far with this change.” Then, in January, Twitch updated its guidelines again to ban implied nudity after creators, including Morgpie, streamed themselves at angles that suggested they weren’t wearing clothes.
The original article contains 275 words, the summary contains 182 words. Saved 34%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!
Pro tip to all the unfairly ridiculed titty streamers out there doing God’s work (as if any of you were actually on Lemmy):
You could probably skirt this by hiding your face. Then you have plausible deniability as they can’t prove concretely whether it’s you showing skin or topical abstract art expression.
As an added bonus, the content value also stands to potentially go up as viewer’s would no longer be driven away by your over-attended attention seeking mug. That’s what you do this for, right, to make content for your community?
Why wouldn’t a titty streamer be on Lemmy?? Someone who makes a living online, on the most popular alternative to one of the most popular websites ever?
Can we not have anything fun, Jeez! 😭😭😭
