This so much. If you can’t articulate it I’m going to make sure it stays your problem, not mine.

Was looking through some old photos recently and found one of me holding my son as an infant in a shirt I still have. He’s 20.
Granted it progressed from clean and nice to covered in paint as it transitioned to something to wear when doing dirty chores.
But, if I can get an Old Navy shirt to last two decades I think I’ll be good forever. Assuming I can maintain my figure and don’t outgrow them, that is.
StarCraft. The original. My brain and body is hardwired to play that game. “SCV ready” triggers something. I have a fantasy of retiring in an old folks home and me and a few of my fellow geriatrics fire that shit up and play LAN games until the DNR kicks in.
That took a turn.
Ah, true. The depth of my equine racism becomes apparent.
Did anyone tell the donkey it was vaccines for Senegal?
Just trying to understand whether this was a tragic accident or if the donkey is a racist asshole.
Eight years ago I would have agreed. But, I think we’ve demonstrated the short comings of putting authority for our most important policies in the hands of your average citizen.
I don’t have a better answer, mind you. Hopefully someone way further right on the “average citizen” bell curve has better ideas.
Not going to spend a second trying to find the answer, but I wonder if the odds-makers are distinguishing between who wins the election and who is the next leader of the United States. Because those may be different things.
The long story here is that they made the bed they’re laying in. Treating Trump as a serious leader, either out of fear or greed, instead of protecting the integrity of journalism and, by extension, democracy has led us here.
But which of my 300 “few minute chores” do I start with?
Aside from coding assistants, the other use case I’ve come across recently is sentiment analysis of large datasets from free text survey responses. Just started exploring it so not sure how well it works yet, but the ridiculous amount of bias I see introduced in manual reviews is just awful. A machine can potentially be less inclined to try fitting summaries to the VP’s presupposed opinion than some lackie interns or self serving consultancy.
I have become that cliche where I genuinely look forward to getting socks under the tree on Christmas morning.
I’m a grown ass man who can at any point in any day decide to get in my automobile and go to any store and buy a mountain of socks, or order a pallet of socks to be drop-shipped to the door of my grown up house on a whim.
But I prefer to suffer holy toes and see through heels in anticipation of starting fresh on Christmas morn.
When I realized this in my soul, I was no longer a child.
I keep my car’s gas tank half full, at least, at all times. Any disaster in my region (except something cataclysmic) I think I’d be able to get far enough away from to protect our lives.
Had a gas can inexplicably catch fire in my yard but close enough to the house to scorch and melt siding. Was able to put it out on the third attempt just before the fire dept showed up. I now have a variety of sizes and types of fire extinguishing apparatus around my house.
Invest in fire safety. Lives are at stake.
Sincerely, thanks for being willing to provide a thoughtful response.
Amazing. May I ask what region of the world you’re describing?
It isn’t the calls per se, though I’m not a fan of sales calls. It is the number spoofing that drives me nuts. I’m not an expert but I’ve got to believe allowing scammers to appear as valid phone numbers on caller id has got to be a solvable problem. Even just an indication that the call is coming from a VoIP relay and not my kid’s school’s landline has to be possible, no?
Sounds like the words of someone suffering from Stockholm Syndrome.
