  • I wasn’t the most popular growing up and I remember becoming popular and developing a larger friends group in late high school. Above all, I remember going out for pizza when I was 17. At home, we always shared a small (frozen or delivery or restaurant) pizza - me, my sister, and my mom. Eating pizza meant having a slice or two for dinner (with salad, there was always salad). So this also always meant prior discussions on the toppings. Therefore, going out with new friends, I was highly confused why no one was really engaging in my question about what kind of toppings they want, everyone was just stating what they want and gonna get and I was hella confused. When it occurred to me that everyone was going to order a whole pizza for themselves I couldn’t believe it. I don’t remember what happened next, I only remember the horrible realization that everyone is going to buy a pizza and eat this food, that to me was absolutely meant to be shared, by themselves like psychopaths, a whole family meal, for each person. And that this was the normal way to do it. As I said, I don’t know what happened next, but I don’t really like pizza to this day - maybe something happened that day, I don’t know.

Thank God I found a spouse who likes to share a small pizza and can’t have more than 2-3 slices tops either.

  • Lol as someone from biomedical sciences I thought you were speaking about applications in the broad field of biology/biological sciences. I was so excited to ask you about what companies would accept an “R strategy” application because fuck this, even for a technical assistant job I need a fucking tailored cover letter every single time because otherwise my application doesn’t even land on anyone’s desk.

  • I’m from Germany, so my exposure to US politics is limited (yet still way too much). So, I happened to watch/listen to the new york times podcast interview with vance about 1-2 weeks before the election. Mind you, before that I assumed he was an awkward idiot because all I knew about him was the doughnut thing, laughing at his own joke, and the couch thing. So I basically only tuned in to hear that weird ass man speak for once.

Apart from the shitty interviewer, I was shocked to find that he would charm me every couple of minutes. Saying people change their minds, people make mistakes, explaining where he is coming from, talking about his wife. This was not who I expected. And I had to remind myself a couple of times: this dude is up to no good. Listen to what he is not saying. Don’t get sucked into this madness.

But damn he sounded so normal. So human. (Especially in contrast to the stuff I heard about him before.) And since then, I am honestly worried about this guy. I am definitely on the left spectrum politically speaking, and I still found some stuff relatable just by the way he talked. This scared me so much.

So I agree with you, I think he is an opportunist. And he actually knows what he is doing. I think he knows how to act and speak much better than the left US media tried to portray. They try to ridicule someone who is a very elaborate politician, and this can backfire so much, it’s dangerous. Don’t ridicule the devil in power. I believe if he wanted to, he could wrap a lot of people around his finger.

Yesterday’s John Oliver introduced me to the concept of vote swapping and I am so pissed this wasn’t pushed for third party/protest voters. Basically, if you live in a swing state and absolutely insist on not voting for the Dems, find someone in a blue state who planned on voting for Harris and let them do a protest vote on your behalf, while you vote for Harris on their behalf. Why didn’t I hear about this earlier?! (I live in Germany tho, so maybe it is a thing?)

  • It’s great that you found a diet that helps with your health and works for you!

You probably know this anyway and most likely implied it, but I just want to stress that carbohydrates per se are not bad. Yes, eventually everything is being broken down to sugar, but you should not reduce carbohydrates to this function only. Oats are mostly carbohydrates, but they are whole grain with a lot of fiber and are a great source for iron (if not eaten with dairy). Their GI is in the 50s but you would have to take the whole dish into account, as rarely you’ll just sit there munching oats like a horse. Buckwheat and quinoa are often praised for their high protein content (and it’s true, they have like 10-12g of protein per 100g) but they still consist mostly of carbohydrates. A slow breakdown of complex carbohydrates gives you long term energy without raising blood sugars too much.
