I see little evidence that many moderate republican or independents are going to vote for a convicted rapist to be the leader of the free world. Just my take on it. Just having the maga cult in his pocket is not enough votes to unseat an incumbent president.
Really? I see so much evidence for that. Because they’ve done it before. Republicans have shown time and time again that they have no qualms whatsoever with voting for anyone as long as they have the word Republican next to their name. That’s the strength of their party. They may gripe and b**** about it but they always fall into line, election day.
Democrats underestimated how unpopular Clinton was with moderates, which is how Trump got elected.
Now it’s the other way around. Trump already lost to Biden because everyone but the Republicans loathed him by that point, and he’s only been worse ever since.
I’m not counting eggs before they hatch, but when it comes down to it I think that Biden can carry the election as long as Dems and moderates show up to vote.
In 2016 I was so certain that Trump would lose to Hillary, that when he won I was in complete disbelief. Over the last 8 years I’ve spent a lot of time working with a lot of blue-collar people and have spent a lot of time talking to them about their beliefs. And while I don’t share those beliefs, I understand how they got there.
And as unbelievable as it may be to some of us, there are a large portion of population that thinks of Biden just as lowly as we may think of Trump. And they have their reasons. They have their own echo chamber that makes them believe that there’s not a single chance that Biden will wil, just like how we have our own echo chamber telling us the opposite.
And from what I can see, the right is a lot more enthusiastic about their candidate then the left is about theirs. That’s the only reason I think Trump will end up winning.
Don’t forget Trump has only ever won once - in 2016 - and even then he lost the popular vote by 3 million. Every single major race since then - the 2018 midterms, the 2020 presidential election, the 2022 midterms - he or his endorsed candidates either outright lost or failed to live up to expectations. Don’t get me wrong, I’m as anxious as anybody else and I’ll believe it when I see it, but if I were to place a bet I’d bet he’s going to lose yet again.
Just because you decided that he wasn’t supposed to win the presidency last time, doesn’t mean he didn’t already sit in the chair for 4 years. If it’s happened before, it can happen again. And I think it unfortunately will.
No, using it in this case makes perfect sense. You’re having some kind of cognition problem here, or one of those people who apparently are physically incapable of admitting being wrong.
My conclusions are that Hamas is an organization that doesn’t actually care about the people of Gaza and it uses them as a tool to further their own aims and benefits. I think that’s the only reasonable conclusion anyone with a brain could make.
What’s more worrisome is that the mods actually removed my comment after they went running over to the mods. I feel like Lemmy has gotten an injection of trolls lately and mods are just letting them run around doing as they please. He’s been banned before for abusing the report system. So yeah, obvious troll is obvious.
“Generic Democrat” polls better than Biden. You can argue he has a chance, but you can’t argue that he’s popular, or polling well against Trump. I kind of take issue with “crushed” a descriptor of 2020 too. Skin of his teeth seems more reasonable, and in an environment that’s completely different from right now. They did it with Hillary, another very unpopular candidate and we got Trump. They’re doing it again now, and it seems nuts to go so balls out against actual voters rather than the people who are literally deciding who the candidate is. But what do I know🤷♂️
Generic Democrat/Republican beat their respective candidates quite often, actually. It’s easy to be appealing as a literal non-existent entity with no baggage that represents an average of one of the two most common voter groups. Not really interested in arguing with you on any of the rest of it, but that piece is not as supportive an argument as people are making it out to be.
I will absolutely blame you. I wanted Sanders enough to switch parties to vote for him in the primary. I get it.
But this time isn’t about getting what we want. This is about reducing harm. The math is simple, more people will die and suffer under Trump. He will vilify the weakest of us to give his base red meat to chew on. Do you not have enough examples as to what happens when a population is dehumanized? Is that a thing you will allow in order to keep your ideals pristine?
You want change? Start local. Find like minded people and build a resilient community -that’s where we can find power. Start voting people into office from the bottom up.
It’s a sprint right now to stop the worst from happening but a marathon to make an equitable society.
“I hope we all lose American Democracy to punish my neighbors that don’t hold the exact same political views as me! Now we can ALL be unhappy forever!”
The Republican Congress since Mitch McConnell’s 2010 class is responsible for killing most government action since the middle of the Obama administration. The Republican party is the actual problem.
We all laugh, but I think he’s going to win again.

Republicans aren’t the only voters though.

There’s enough of them who will stay home and just not vote at all that I believe Biden will win

And he would lost have if he hadnt cheated 2 weeks before the election by paying off his hookers.
Just cuz he ‘won’ doesnt mean he won. Is Lance Armstrong the winner of the tour de france? Nope.

Just so I understand. “Grad them by the pussy” and general asshole corrupt Trump was ok. Rapist Trump is not ok?
I hope you’re right.
I hate the Cheeto chimp. But, he is not a “convicted” rapist.

Hehe I see what u did there
Do you see what you did to this thread?
I’ve been a bad boy.
Again? He literally lost against Biden last time.
You can use deductive reasoning figure out what “again” means in this context.

Okay buddy. We can chat after Biden wins AGAIN in November.
As long as you get better before then, sounds good.
If you couldn’t figure out what he meant when he used the word again, you might want to go take an English language class AGAIN
Read my comment above. It’s called sarcasm idiot.
Only words that come to mind when I read that are “pedantic,” and “what’s the point?”
Blame dems for running shit candidates.
Imagine if Bernie won the nomination in 2016…
We’d have 8 years of Sanders and then democrats would be running someone comparable or even better.
But the ruling class didn’t like that, so this is what we get.
I hope trump wins just to punish biden supporters. Tired of these wet-noodle candidates that do nothing.
Don’t blame me. Blame everyone who voted for Hillary in the 2016 primary. They are the problem.
He said, from his cushy position of privilege.
If Trump is Putin’s puppet and Putin supports Hamas, then wouldn’t Trump be better for the people of Gaza than Biden?
Unless Trump isn’t Putin’s puppet or Putin doesn’t support Hamas?
Nope: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna141905
Also might be worth considering, I dunno, people of the country he would be president of.
Why would Trump go against the wishes of his puppetmaster, Putin?
Unless he’s not actually Putin’s puppet?
You’d have to ask him.

Are you moronic enough to think Putin supports Hamas for any reason other than to just cause chaos? Do you believe he shares an ideology with them?
Does it matter? My point was that if Trump is Putin’s puppet and Putin supports Hamas, then it makes sense that Trump would too.
The reasoning why Putin supports Hamas is irrelevant, but you’re trying to pivot the conversation to something that’s easier for you to manipulate.
I don’t expect more from you people at this point because I see it so often.

I know this is probably a futile exercise, but why on Earth would someone being a supporter of Hamas be good for the people of Gaza?
Study some of the history of the region and reach your own conclusions.
My conclusions are that Hamas is an organization that doesn’t actually care about the people of Gaza and it uses them as a tool to further their own aims and benefits. I think that’s the only reasonable conclusion anyone with a brain could make.
That’s cool.
Did you study the history of the region before reaching that conclusion?
Edit: No, he did not.
logically, yes.
so at least one of those must be false, since we know that trump would be worse.
here’s my take: trump isn’t putin’s puppet.
Glad someone here is rational.
This propaganda frenzy has everyone in “proud useful-idiot” mode.
Everybody can see what’s happening here, and it’s not interesting. Go play with your crayons.
It’s really sad how hard up for a win this guy is that he has to invent his own.
Sorry I’m saying things you don’t like, but instead of insulting me you could try debunking.
We both know you can’t do that, though, so you resort to personal insults to fit in with the crowd.
No, if he wins, the blame will be on people like you. Naive or a Russian shill.
Nope. Keep being a tribalist.
Fuck off, idiot.

no. i didn’t see anything like that.
I mean, he’s very obviously trolling here.

i disagree with your characterization generally and specifically, but if you think they are violating a rule, you should report them.
You disagree that telling me I need remedial English lessons is a personal attack? You think that was a good-faith expression of genuine concern?
The way you pick and choose where to police these rules is very telling.
Blame Dems for running the guy who crushed trump last time???

“I hope we all lose American Democracy to punish my neighbors that don’t hold the exact same political views as me! Now we can ALL be unhappy forever!”
Democracy was lost the moment we allowed unlimited funds to be pumped into campaigns.
I’m just being real about the situation instead of living in a fantasy land like a lot of people.
Of course, those same people get mad when I point out reality.
Moron
Stay mad.
I rather be mad than stupid
You certainly not both.
