Title is misleading as hell. They added the option to set it as the default. It is not the default for everyone moving forward.
thanks a lot, I tried to make the headline more accurate
“Adds […] as an Option” sounds like default to you?
Looks like OP updated the title after the other commenter had commented.
How do they get money? Do they use my data ? Or do they put sponsored links? I don’t want either
It’s in the article; Ecosia throws money at moz://a and they put Ecosia as one of the search engines.
This means you can click it from a list of icons under your search bar.No data selling nor snooping involved.
My question was how does Ecosia make money?
Sponsored links. They do attempt to maximize privacy and the money generated goes to support environment restoration, but if you draw the line at any money being made that probably doesn’t help you.
Adds in their search, i think they are a non-profit company, as they use this money to plant trees
Waiting for stract to get the support it needs
Leaving a thank you for the information of another option. And FOSS.
Haven’t heard of Ecosia before. Looks really interesting
Anyone has used it for some time and has some comments?
basically duckduckgo without much privacy promises
Duckduckgo is also owned by non-profit?
Nope! They’ve been profitable for almost as long as they exist with non-tracking ads!
