Summary

Friedrich Merz, leader of Germany’s CDU and chancellor candidate, warned that the far-right AfD seeks to destroy his party. He emphatically denied any future cooperation with them.

Recent parliamentary votes included AfD support for anti-immigration legislation, sparking controversy. Critics argue that breaking the established “firewall” undermines democratic principles.

Mass protests erupted across Germany over the perceived recklessness of this move.

Merz reaffirmed his commitment to European unity and robust trade policies while denouncing extremist influences threatening traditional values.
