Summary
An international boycott against US goods is intensifying across Canada, Europe, and beyond in reaction to authoritarian policies and trade tariffs under Trump’s second administration.
Consumer boycotts have notably hurt Tesla, exacerbated by Elon Musk’s role in Trump’s administration, causing Tesla’s share price to plummet.
Cultural boycotts, including canceled tours and rejected US-made products, are widespread, reflecting anger over US policies and Trump’s stance on Ukraine.
Analysts emphasize this unprecedented backlash signals declining global trust in the US, with a shift towards ethical consumerism driven by political anger and activism.
Shit. I’m an American and I’m trying to boycott American goods.
Do your thing world. You’ve got my support.
Yes good 100%. Also as an American, we deserve to sleep in the bed we’ve made. Can only blame a scapegoat for so long (optimism maybe).
Good. As an American, I say we need this. We have shown the world our cowardly, ignorant stripes by electing Donald Trump as our president for the second time, after witnessing the shit-show of his first term; clearly, we have not learned our lesson. We deserve to be abandoned by our allies for how our chosen president is treating them.
I’m not ashamed, as I voted for Kamala against Trump, but clearly too many of my countrymen need a wake-up call.
I used to be very patriotic and believed in America. I’m now ready for it to shatter and for the states to go our own separate ways. The American experiment is over.
I am still very patriotic. We have to save our country from fascism. Even if we have to build from the ground up, we have to fight for our country. I’m not under the illusion that this happened overnight. Far from it, it has been a slow cascading wave of democratic failures one after another.
Still, we can’t be too dejected to just say “fuck it” and flip the table in despair.
Try educating a conservative and then come back and tell me how you think we’re going to move forward as a nation.
But at what point do we call it quits? Even the most loyal dog will eat its owner once starved.
That’s not going to help anything. It’s not a red state vs blue state divide, it’s cities vs rural areas. That’s not a problem you can solve with new borders.
It’s one you can solve with a new constitution, though.
Can you?
One thing about boycotting the likes of Amazon is that I realize that I don’t need any more junk.
Ya know, call me cynical, but I think being boycotted by the entire world will make it very difficult for us to make money.
Yeah, so far, I’m really missing how we are becoming great again.
We’re a great asset to Putin.
Yeah, I’m sure trump and Elon are nailing all of their S.M.A.R.T. Goals with Putin
Avoiding American goods is fairly easy and not very impactful. Avoiding American services is where it’s at.
I’m in Canada and yes, US grocery items are very easy to avoid. I cancelled netflix/disney/amazon. But yeah I’m still using gmail/android and this one may be hard to avoid…
There are a number of good, non-US-based email alternatives. Both mailbox.org and tuta are based in Germany, and I’ve had good luck with Runbox in Norway.
For Android, check out LineageOS or GrapheneOS if you have a Pixel.
Hell, I’ll buy Canadian. Alaska is closer to them anyway.
Love to see this! Not sure it will gain enough momentum though. I think it will cost too many economies too much to boycott US markets for an extended amount of time.
