    Greenland(and the Faroe Islands) are autonomous territories of Denmark. They function very similarly to US States. They have their own local governing bodies that deal with local matters but when it comes to foreign affairs, monetary policy and security they defer to the Danish Government in which they also have their own dedicated representatives.

    The people are full Danish citizens so they use a Danish passport but pretty much all of them will identify as Greenlander (or Faroese) first and as a Dane second.
