Does anyone know of a good privacy respecting (preferably FOSS) parental control app for Android? I’m trying to convince a friend to get a Pixel with GrapheneOS as their kids next phone but they won’t do it unless it let’s them control certain things.
They’re used to iOS where apparently their kid can request to download an app and they can remotely allow the installation. They can also add screen time beyond the original set limit if the kids requests it.
Unfortunately, I don’t think they’d be open to switching if it means losing their parental controls.
The thing is, the kid has started realizing the data collection that’s going on and it’s interested in switching. That’s the only reason I’m genuinely pursuing this.
Okay, that makes much more sense if it’s the kid’s initiative.
Yeah they were talking about a game and then started getting ads for that game. Classic start to the story lol
Same reason I try to get my GF to ditch her iPhone.
How old is the kid?

I disagree. A human Brain is fully grown by the age of 22.
Until then it is the parents duty to make sure they don’t get addicted to anything, including phones.
So you think that parental controls should be in place until the age of 22?
It’s difficult to generalize, but at least screentime-monitoring should be, so parents can find out if their child is addicted
Counterpoint: a 22-year-old has been a legal adult for 4 years in basically every western country, is allowed to drink alcohol, and can join the military.
Huh. Your kids are smart.
Not my kid but yeah.
