Re Afghanistan I would say 9/11 was not an act of war by Afghanistan, and more a terrorist attack by non-state actors. And the closest involved state actors were Saudi, Pakistani, and U.S moreso than Afghan anyway.
I’m sceptical about the extent to which NATO is controlled by the U.S vs. other members but I’m not too knowledgeable, but it seems at minimum U.S has outsized influence on NATO anyway, as like all the Supreme Allied commanders of Europe have been from the US I think, even though the head position of NATO has more European staff.
But yeah with article 5 and other factors it’s definitely possible Europe would defend Greenland, and I don’t think any of them would help invade it except maybe Hungary lol.
