The only thing I’d temper this with is that MLs are literally not a problem beyond terminally online spaces, particularly the sectarians you mention.

Like yeah they can suck but I’m much more afraid of Proud Boys and the liberals that enable them.

Ultimately I agree with you 100 percent it’s just an exhausting thing to always have to be like “yeah sure fuck tankies I guess” when discussing matters of actual life and death.

This is kind of a tangent but I’ve always had mixed feelings about his essay about not being gay in a time where there were a ton of rumors around the topic, which relates I think to his brand of masculinity.

Essentially his point was that if he was gay he would be the most out and loud person about it so that others could feel safe too do the same, and it always stuck me as an easy thing to say.

But now that I’m out I find it kinda inspiring since I DO get to be that out and loud queer and I would lie if I said his words didn’t inspire that.

So. Well played I guess Henry.

  • I was present at several of the protests in Portland that supposedly burnt down the city.

In all cases they were pretty mild until the police escalated. Like people were rightfully pissed but they were largely marches and chants until driven into a corner by riot cops who were all too ready to blanket downtown in tear gas and rubber bullets

There were elements that would go to the justice center and shake the fence and scream at the cops but nothing that justified the national guard showing up. Looting and such always occurred in the chaos ensuing after an extreme attempt to clamp down on peaceful protest.

  • Nobody is trying to convince trans people they need surgery, it just so happens that it’s an effective treatment for dysphoria as has been proven in study after study after study.

It’s a choice between the patient and their doctors. Perhaps it’s societal, perhaps not. Either way your magical idealism world doesn’t actually exist in real life so it should continue to be a practice because it works

Signed, A trans woman who will have some but not all surgical treatments.

That’s fair. It’s well known in America as it’s a big event for a big American holiday that’s primarily watched by older, less online people and bored kids at a family members house which is why I bought it up. Local news was talking about the whole phenomenon because if it. But out of that American context you’re right that it wouldn’t be as meaningful.
