I hadn’t checked all models but I knew that in the model Y there is a rubber mat in the door bin, that you remove, and under that is a hatch and under that is something you can pull. I had a look at the model X manual and it does seem to be under a panel by the speaker. So either way it is basically impossible for rear occupants (or front occupants who retreat to the back) to open those doors in an emergency.

The simple answer would be to put manual releases front, back and on the hatch. I assume that when a Tesla crashes it isolates the power, so it would also be necessary for things like door locks to automatically disengage, or be disengaged by the manual release otherwise that’s no good either.

Tesla car doors have manual releases in the front doors but not in the rear doors. Or rather, there are manual releases in the rear doors but they are hidden under a hatch under the rubber matting in the door bins so effectively nobody is going to find them in an emergency. So if your car is on fire and you’re injured or panicking & you’re unaware about the manual release then you’re going to die. Now to be fair, the front manual release in the Tesla model 3/Y is fairly discoverable (it’s a handle above the electric windows) but it’s not so obvious in older models. The Cybertruck has similar manual releases as the 3/Y but with toughened glass I wonder how long before we see someone drown or burn to death and bystanders were unable to rescue them.

Well NY can certainly sentence him, and he can potentially serve a custodial sentence. But I suspect that even if the judge handed him time in prison it wouldn’t be four years and would almost certainly be appealed or delayed to be mostly irrelevant. Seems like a plausible strategy. If the roof is lashed down it can’t catch the wind and therefore is less likely to weaken over time and go flying. Certainly better than doing nothing.

Viable solutions with sand or rock have been developed and I expect over the next few decades a large number of such projects will be produced.

A lot of energy storage solutions do exactly that - use heat as energy. i.e. solar heads rock, sand, salt etc. and then later on that heat is turned back into useful energy - either pumping water around households to heat them, or to drive a steam turbine. The bigger the volume of rock / sand / salt, the more efficient the process is.

If only there were some way to take energy made from sunshine and store it in some form for later. Like in a battery. Or as heat. Or in a flywheel. Or just use the energy for something we’d really like to do as cheaply as possible. Like sequester CO2. Or desalinate water. Or run industries that would otherwise use natural gas.

I am by inclination Green, but I live in Europe where the Greens have been through their scandals and emerged somewhat presentable. I don’t believe that is the case in the US, where the Greens and particularly Jill Stein are basically just useful idiots. They disrupt the candidates most aligned to their own cause. And in Stein’s case, she’s disrupts her own damned country.

A game that was released last year has absolutely zero knowledge of this 8k PS5 so it’s not going to magically render at 8k or 40% improvement. Some might get a framerate bump if frame sync can be turned off - the game might have been GPU bound and therefore with a better GPU it yields a better framerate. Sometimes. And AI upscaling might give a pseudo > 4k effect but it’s not really true 8k.

A handful of games might get patched to avail of the improved rendering capabilities when they detect PS5 Pro. Minimal stuff really. Maybe the config file will improve draw distance or turn on certain effects like raytraced shadows / reflections when it knows the console can handle it.

Hardly seems worth the vast additional expense especially if somebody already owns a PS5 though. Moreso because Sony are trying to stiff people into buying the cheaper “digital” version which basically means any physical collection won’t work with it.

Nvidia is worth 42bn USD and employs 30,000 people.

Nvidia’s has a market cap 30x of Intel’s. So it could issue more stock to raise capital for a buyout. It’s not the company equity but the market cap that it needs to have money to purchase. Even a controlling stake of > 50% would give them defacto control. Of course governments & regulators would probably block it or force Nvidia to divest bits of itself, and that’s probably the greatest protection Intel has against such a scenario.

But if Intel weakens further, it may well be someone else tries to acquire it. I bet a lot of companies would love to snaffle it up. It’s kind of ironic that Intel used to be the big dog in the semiconductor space but even AMD is bigger than it these days and are potentially many others who’d like buy it out. In fact, for all we know Intel might be shedding all these jobs to make it look more attractive to potential buyers.

The US and Europe has become acutely aware that too much semi-conductor manufacturing has been outsourced to China and other Asian nations and they’re trying to build some back domestically. So that’s the geopolitical reason for it.
