Inheritance Tax
is a tax on the estate (the property, money and possessions) of someone who’s died.
There’s normally no Inheritance Tax to pay if either:
- the value of your estate is below the £325,000 threshold
- you leave everything above the £325,000 threshold to your spouse, civil partner, a charity or a community amateur sports club
The standard Inheritance Tax rate is 40%. It’s only charged on the part of your estate that’s above the threshold.

What qualifies for Business Relief
You can get 100% Business Relief on:
- a business or interest in a business
- shares in an unlisted company
You can get 50% Business Relief on:
- shares controlling more than 50% of the voting rights in a listed company
- land, buildings or machinery owned by the deceased and used in a business they were a partner in or controlled
- land, buildings or machinery used in the business and held in a trust that it has the right to benefit from
You can only get relief if the deceased owned the business or asset for at least 2 years before they died.

8·3 months agoI guess there’s a nice idea behind the process. But tbh, I don’t even remember what instance I joined. I tried joining a tech instance but my application was rejected … I’m really not that interested in applying like it’s a job or something. (Though I understand lots of IRL groups have application processes)
No doubt these policies will bring short term (1 - 5 years) benefits, cheaper oil and less regulation is likely to reduce costs to consumers.
But long term, that’s when
themore shit will hit the fan.
From April 2026, a 20% tax rate – half the headline inheritance tax rate of 40% – will be applied to the value of farms and businesses worth more than £1m when they are passed on.
I think this is what they are complaining about.
5·3 months agoUWB looks very cool for finding things from the phone (without the tracker ringing). Samsung Smart tag 2 does this.
I’ve picked up a Moto tag that has UWB and works with Google’s find my network - my understanding is that this will work like apple air tags which can use any iPhone to report and track it’s location. Though it’s not doing all of these things just yet!

15·3 months agoI’d guess the codebase that keeps Word running is so convoluted by now they have trouble shoehorning it in.
It’s such a stupid thing, not only do people have to pay over the odds to scalpers, but how do people go about claiming on warranty or returns.
