Yeah, they kinda screwed up Element with combining mobile and desktop features into one app. The first time I tried creating a call on desktop, it was suddenly apparent how confusing they had made it, because you can do it in multiple ways (normal calls & conference calls).
There are other UIs that look very nice, but sadly don’t support voice chat. Hopefully these other clients can catch up, but it’ll likely take a while.

Hosting on your own hardware is much more fun though! In most cases it’s safer too, you don’t really need to worry about much as long as you dont portforward your ssh port & don’t run programs as root.

If you are talking about brute force attacks for your password, then use a good password… and something like fail2ban to block ips that are spamming you.
This point doesn’t exactly match, but: public services like google auth don’t require users use vpns. They have a lot more money to keep stuff secure, but you may see my point… auth isn’t too trivial of a feature to keep secure nowadays. They implement similar protections, something to block spammers and make users have good passwords (if you dont use a good password, you are still vulnerable on any service).

It does, to me, seem like a violation of privacy (looks like patients have no consent in whether their private data is collected).
But, personally, I would think there would have been better, non-public ways of doing this if he really wanted to exterminate austistic people, etc.
It being public, makes me think he wants PR, etc and wants to be the dude to cure autism.

An admirable goal, even though I’m pretty sure current science says it’s not possible. I don’t think he’s smart, but maybe the actual smart people working on this will get somewhere, and if that helps people, that’s good.
Might not get anywhere, but I suppose it’s worth a try (assuming the academics involved think there’s a good reason).
At face value, it does seem like an invasion of privacy, if there’s no consent to share medical records, etc.

I may be misinterpreting you, but I think this is a thing with Dolphin. It has a preview pane, which supports all the file types I commonly interact with (F11), which can be dragged to resize bigger or smaller.
I haven’t used any preview thing on Windows, which is why I think I may be misunderstanding.
Anyways if you haven’t tried Dolphin, maybe it has a solution for you (made by kde project, but I believe it should be installable for any desktop environment).
Sadly I have to disagree. If I have an issue on Windows, I just can never find an answer because every result on my search is the microsoft forums, which of course never has any solutions that work.
On the other hand, specifically for arch, the arch forums always have the answer for me because there are actual smart people on there.
A side note, windows and their products always have terrible documentation, which can add to the frustration at times.
Yeah, wondering myself if this guys experience was also from a long time ago or maybe just an obscure device or something.
Sadly most people grow up using and are tought Windows from the first time they touch a computer so its quirks and workarounds of bugs are engrained in the users mind.
Uprooting their entire (current) knowlegebase is inconvenient… but it’s still for the greater good of their privacy and in my opinion effectiveness of whatever they do.
Personally I find that feature (including tabs in general) very helpful and is something i’d expect from a text editor in the 20th century.
Just my opinion. To each their own, but just wanted to share that it might also be many others’ opinion too.
Just imagine the good they could have done by being a new competent Matrix client that can do everything, but instead they are a Discord clone.
