  • Jesus. Did they have to do anything to get it to heal, or did it heal on its own? Or is it still ripped?

I was stretching too much after months of not stretching, when I got my new place last year. Suddenly felt a sort of sharp pang of pain in my belly. Scared me, immediately stopped the stretch and curled forward around it.

Later on, noticed I had an umbilical hernia. They had to fix it surgically.

Really freaked me out. Like, I knew the tissues of my body had a tensile strength beyond which they’d fail, but I always assumed those forces would be like from a car crash or something. Not just a stretch.

Definitely a weird feeling to realize we’re all just jello of various consistencies wrapped around bones.

  • And narcissism combats our ability to recognize it when it’s sub-disorder level too.

We have practices like saying difficult truths to one another, or debating, or meditating, or using nonviolent communication technique, or spending time in nature, or writing in a journal. Etc etc.

A person’s non-disorder narcissism can be an impediment to their growth, and if they don’t manage it, it can grow to overcome a tipping point where it becomes dominant in their moment to moment behavior and they get trapped in it.

Just like anxiety, if not properly “trimmed”, can grow more and more powerful until it starts to prevent normal activities and then you’ve got an anxiety disorder.

  • Binary search requires splitting the search space into two halves, then asking “is it in that half?”

Normally the “is it in that half?” check involves a numerical comparison: test value versus target value. “higher or lower” here gets you to “is it in that half?”

So finding the midpoint seems like a core part of the process, but really that’s just a shortcut in the case of comparable values, that helps you split into two and check membership.

I admit I couldn’t think of that either: just alter half the items and check for effect.
