FBI warns users to encrypt text messages for cybersecurity. Here’s how to do it Sunshyne Lynch Binghamton Press & Sun Bulletin
The FBI is warning phone users to encrypt their text messages, especially if you send messages between Apple and Android users.
The FBI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) issued a statement on Nov. 13 that hackers affiliated with People’s Republic of China (PRC) were targeting “telecommunications infrastructure” in a “broad and significant cyber espionage campaign.”
The hackers targeted “a limited number of individuals who are primarily involved in government or political activity,” according to the statement, and stole “customer call records data” and “certain information that was subject to U.S. law enforcement requests pursuant to court orders.”
Despite the FBI and CISA’s continued investigation, cybersecurity officials have been unable to stop the hackers.
What text messages should be encrypted Because of the cyberattack, officials are warning smartphone users to use texting apps such as WhatsApp or Signal, as messages between Apple and Android users are not encrypted.
Messages between two Apple devices are safe, and messages between two Android devices are safe, but messages between an Apple device and and Android device are vulnerable.
Here are two text messaging apps that use end-to-end encryption. Once you’ve downloaded either of these apps to your smartphone, you can also link them to your desktop computers.
How to encrypt text messages with WhatsApp To ensure that messages between Apple and Android users are encrypted, you can use the text messaging app WhatsApp.
To download the app, Apple users should visit the App Store and Android users should visit the Google Play app, and download WhatsApp Messenger. The app is free to download and use.
Once you’ve downloaded the app, you’ll need to accept the Terms and Conditions and allow the app to have certain permissions, like contacts and notifications.
Then, you’ll need to select the country you live in and register a phone number you own. This phone number must be able to receive phone calls and text messages, so it cannot be a landline or toll-free number.
WhatsApp will then give you the option for a voice call or to text a code to the phone number you entered in order to verify the number.
Once the number is verified, you must put in the year you were born and your name and click “Done.” After you’ve completed this step, you can begin texting and calling your contacts through WhatsApp.
To use this app, you must have Wi-Fi or cellular data.
How to encrypt text messages with Signal Signal is another encrypted text messaging app to ensure messages between Apple and Android users are protected.
To download the app, Apple users should visit the App Store and Android users should visit the Google Play app, and download Signal - Private Messenger. The app is free to download and use.
Once you’ve downloaded the app, you’ll need to accept the Terms and Conditions and allow the app to have certain permissions, like contacts and notifications.
Like WhatsApp, you’ll enter in a phone number that you own and is able to make calls and send and receive text messages.
Signal will text you a verification code that you’ll need to enter into the app that verifies the phone number. After the number has been verified, you’ll create a PIN that allows you to access your information and ensures your information is encrypted.
You’ll then enter in your first and last name to create your Signal profile. After creating your profile, you can begin texting and calling through Signal. The app will show you the contacts in your phone that already have the app.
To use this app, you must have Wi-Fi or cellular data.
I know this is a joke but if anyone is wondering it’s because they build those things to go towards the air, otherwise they would be going away from the air and it would be hard to breath. Earth is going away from the air too but luckily it has trees attached to itself that make more air and leave it behind, that’s where wind comes from.

Yeah, fuck that mouse, there’s no excuse for that one.
To be fair, aren’t those mini PCs meant for HTPCs/home servers? You’re not really supposed to turn them off, and if you really want easy power button access you can just set it upside down. I’d say it’s a good idea if you take into account that it’s aimed at Apple customers who care more about “design” over usability. They truly “think different” over there.
Pendrive for the important stuff, paper for the really important stuff and brain for everything else.

It has a store page, basically an embedded web browser, I redeem free epic games through it, don’t know about GOG but I’d imagine it works the same.
The heroic launcher supports GOG.

I know that lemmy devs are commies, doesn’t bother me. The idea that some technologies can or should be used only by some political factions is just dumb. I left reddit after the api changes because I’m not installing proprietary spyware on my phone. I also like the idea of a decentralized, community run social platform, ideally nostr based because I like the way nostr federation works better than the fediverse, where the user can choose which relays to connect to instead of their instance making that decision for them, but until there is a viable alternative with a larger community I’m here.
What argument? Most of the article says “Everyone who disagrees with me is a far right gender fascist and also for some reason racist and I’m right because science (I didn’t care to link to) says so, trust me bro.”
The only half viable arguments provided (and I’m really reaching here) can be easily debunked.
She was assigned female at birth.
Sex is assigned at birth based on external characteristics aka primary reproductive organs, you can’t tell someone has internal testes, xy chromosomes or abnormally high testosterone levels just by looking at them.
She is eligible according to the Olympic rules.
The Olympic rules that were changed recently by removing the requirements for testosterone level within a certain range, the same reason why she was deemed illegible to compete by International Boxing Association just a year earlier, who is way more qualified to set fair and safe boxing rules then the International Olympic Committee by their own admission (PDF warning). Clearly we can’t say that it’s 100% fair and safe for her opponents.
She has lost before
I’m a guy and I’m 99% sure I would loose to a pro female boxer in the same weight class, because I have 0 training or experience, but I’m also 99% sure I would do way better than a girl with 0 training or experience. Loosing doesn’t mean you don’t have an unfair advantage.
Even using the lefts’ own logic, if sex is a spectrum and she as someone who’s intersex is somewhere in the middle of that spectrum, isn’t it unfair and unsafe for either her or her rivals to fight each other when they’re so far apart on the thing that’s so detrimental to defining ones’ physical capabilities?
There were many throughout the years but they always end in authoritarianism, censorship, corruption, surveillance, povery, hunger, death and eventual collapse.
The right is ruining women sports… No wonder the left is so disconnected from reality with this astral plane traversing level of projection.
