From my perspective you can’t bet both sides and still expect gains on average. Sure you can be lucky that the one bet wins more than the other loses but typically that doesn’t work if you bet on two opposite outcomes. There are no magical and safe ways to multiply money other than maybe being super rich and already too big to fail.

  • Maybe I phrased it in a confusing way. Coffee does not smell like dog poop to me. It’s just exactly as disgusting. Can’t really compare it to anything else but it’s a very intense smell that I just can’t stand. I noticed that microwaving chocolate milk can lead to a similar smell but by far not as bad as coffee.

It’s not roasted stuff in general that I despise and also not related to milk.

Voting for a party you dislike or not voting out of spite is not a good form of protest IMO. At the very least vote 3rd party. With the current election system in the US, that’s still a stupid choice from my perspective but at least it makes your disagreement somewhat visible.

In the statistics, not voting at all feeds in the same bucket as lazyness or carelessness.

  • I don’t think you have to go as far as buying new hardware. I never tried to bypass a Reddit ban personally but in worst case, using a virtual machine with a different operating system (e.g. a Linux system in your Windows machine) should be sufficient. Regarding VPNs, it might be a general issue of shared IP addresses. The VPN you used was most likely already used by other people to hide their identity in Reddit, e.g. for fraudulent activities, spam, harrassment etc. So if you use a public VPN, the risk is probably pretty high that it’s already burned for use with Reddit, independent of your individual ban.

Additionally, use a different IP that is not a public proxy. You could for example use cellular network via tethering. Maybe there are easier ways to get there but I can’t see how Reddit could trace that back to you with these two steps. Unless you disclose your old identity obviously.

  • If you’re primarily looking for ways to circumvent a ban on Reddit, I’m pretty sure there are better places than a community of vegans (no matter if on Lemmy or not). 😉

Regarding Lemmy in general, I agree that there are far less users here but my impression is that the quality of communication is higher here. I had several deep conversations that went back and forth over weeks. Also people that I didn’t agree with were really respectful and I really appreciated them explaining their point of view. Reddit often felt toxic to me and very few subs had such deeper and open discussions.

I don’t know what kind of support you are looking for but Lemmy seems to be pretty left leaning to me and also veganism seems to be welcome also in non-100%-vegan communities.

  • Back-up/failover instances for communities and users.

Every user and every admin of a community should be able to assign a failover instance in case the main instance goes down temporarily or permanently. All relevant data (posts, upvotes, settings, password hashes, mod log) would be permanently syched so you could just switch over in case of a downtime and most importantly, no content would be lost.

If you implement a feature to set the failover instance as your new main instance, that would also implicitly allow you to migrate users and communities elsewhere.
