We had a shooting in the USA in the last 24 hours, how insensitive of you to raise the topic

So does nearly every country with extremely low gun violence rates. Now, tell us that doesn’t count for some reason.

Yeah but here in France there was a mass shooting in Paris during the terrorist attack of 2015 (like, almost yesterday but 9 years ago), and Trump had a great speech about it during a (NRA?) conference when he said that it wouldn’t have happened if we had guns! Very smart, MIT and stuff, but no shark, no, sharks bad!

So what gun control do you think we should enact? It is a direct question. No need to be passive aggressive.

Who says I would never accept them? Your assumptions are poor. We have a lot of gun laws that the public and legislature have passed that seem to have missed the point because we copy a lot of what California does instead of focusing on effective means of stopping violence.

You need gun control everywhere in the country. Unfortunately it’s too easy for people to just buy them in the next town and drive them in. That is not a reason to keep letting it happen, of course, but it is why “[city/state] does have laws and there are still problems” arguments are kinda worthless.

And then you gotta wait a long-ass time because even cutting off supply there are already more guns than people in the U.S… Best time to plant a tree and all that means ya’ll need to hurry.

So you would want a near ban on all guns? Just curious what you mean by gun control everywhere.

One thing that I’m sure will come out of this story is the gun is stolen. Washington has safe storage laws, but if you report your gun stolen, you are not liable for any crimes committed with it. It happened when a man shot a mother and child in Seattle and the original owner was okay because he reported it stolen. The government should be prosecuting these negligent gun owners.

I mean, that’d be cool with me. And for context I used to have a restricted license(Canadian) that allowed me to own pistols and the like. I enjoy shooting plenty but not at this cost.

I mean “everywhere” because of exactly what I’ve already said. If you ban handguns in Chicago but all someone has to do to get around that is drive out of the city and purchase it in a small town a couple hours away then what’s the point? There are plenty of ways around it at various levels of control when there’s such easy access closeby. We can all agree that strip-searching every car entering Chicago would be insane so the other option is to just not have the guns in the first place.

The point about it probably being stolen doesn’t really change anything. With this many firearms and relying on individuals to be 100% perfect there’s bound to be slip-ups and shady people spreading the weapons all over. You’re right that people should be prosecuted for not securing their weapons but what if they do and a thief just happens to be good enough or lucky enough to take the stuff anyway?

It’s a hobby but so many people have made it their damned personality that they’re willing to saturate their country with them and allow children to die at alarming rates so they can do something 100% optional. If people want to hunt they can use a fuckin’ bow.

You mix teenagers and guns and it doesn’t really matter how nice the mall is.

As the parent of a teenager, I know exactly how moody they can get and how quickly their moods can change from happy to “I will fucking kill a motherfucker.” I wouldn’t give a teenager a gun in a million years.

The ONLY ONLY ONLY way for this to have been Prevented was if SHE Killed the Gunman FIRST! And the ONLY ONLY ONLY way for HIM to prevent his own death was if he killed HER FIRST! So as a Pro Life Save The Children Republican I see NO ISSUES WHATSOEVER with this!

I’m not going to argue with you - living as we are car-free now in a walkable city it’s unthinkable for me. But when I was in America, with a car and a baby, it made perfect sense. There were fewer viable third spaces (aside from parks, which is harder for an infant on a rainy day), and just about every viable third space (where we were) was built around car infrastructure.

All that to say you’re not quite wrong, but there’s nuance and the solutions are necessarily political.
