Summary

Lt. Gen. Christopher Donahue, the last U.S. soldier to leave Afghanistan, has had his promotion to lead U.S. Army operations in Europe blocked by Republican Sen. Markwayne Mullin, reportedly at the request of Donald Trump’s transition team.

The block reflects tensions over the chaotic 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal, with Trump allies pushing for investigations into military leadership during the operation.

Some have suggested court-martialing officers involved.

Critics warn such moves undermine military readiness, while Trump and allies label the withdrawal a “humiliating retreat.”

Donahue’s promotion remains in limbo as debates continue.

No here is the thing. Step one remove people who would resist you from positions of power. Especially the military. Step two dictatorship. This is not about Afghanistan.
