Mods, I know what this looks like, but this is legitimately the only place I feel like I can ask this questions. Please don’t be mad
Don’t mind me I kinda like it.
Jokes aside, I usually see people shamelessly cross posting the same post across multiple communities.
Have a look at https://lemmy.world/c/newcommunities . I just know it exists and have got looking at it’s rules and checking it out more on my to-do list.
Exactly what I’m looking for. Thank You!
There is also !communitypromo@lemmy.ca
I hope they like my community
And a smaller one at !new_communities@mander.xyz
below relevant posts and comments is usually a good place for such hints
What do you mean?
you can promote your community by responding to relevant posts or comments.
say you create a community for ducks and mallards, then you can go to the birding or wildlife communities and tell people posting there about your awesome new place
Well, if that’s the case, then I have a community called “DataBackRibs” that would definitely appreciate you specific data about ducks and mallards
The other half to this is not to advertise on every post you come across even if it seems relevant. Knowing where and when to do it is a fine art that I’m not going to pretend I have good advice for. Advice, sure. Good, maybe not.
Too much means that people will notice and you might be accused of spamming (or worse, ignored or banned), but knowing how much is too much is the tricky part. It almost certainly varies by place and time as well, so it might be a case of lurking around and getting a feel for things.
what is DataBackRibs? please link your community, now i’m curious
https://lemm.ee/c/DataBackRibs I’m trying to make a community where people can be open with data and findings, have a respectful discussion, and then both parties “Walk away” with better knowledge while not getting that social media ego. I hope that makes sense
Ok, it’s almost empty at the moment.
The best thing you could do is post articles to it at a rate of about 1 a day. This will turn up in people’s feeds and hopefully get up voted and attract comments.
Cross posting etc., can come after this. You can’t promote a community with no content.

You can always crosspost posts from your new comm to other comms as long as they’re relevant to the comm you crosspost to. This is essentially advertising for your comm without making “pls post in my comm” posts
That’s a good one. I’m gonna try that
