The outcomes that Mississippi as a state enjoys from its policy choices are predictably bad, and yet have been continuously reinforced in their policies to date. That doesn’t mean all Mississipians are worthy of spite or are poorly educated, but the state of Mississippi as an entity has earned its place in this meme as a stand-in for a political backwater
