This has been a long standing conspiracy theory amongst right wing talk show hosts and other people. Basically the claim is that FEMA will imprison lots of people especially those with far right views using a emergency as a pretext. This conspiracy theory has been widely debunked already.
The interesting thing is now something like the conspiracy theory may happen in real life except ran by ICE instead of FEMA. I’m curious how people who previously propagated this conspiracy theory feel about Trump’s plan for a mass deportation. If you know anyone who’s into this conspiracy theory would you be able to ask them their thoughts on the FEMA camps and then bring up Trump’s mass deportation plan. I’m curious how’d they’d react. Let’s not assume because everyone is different. While trying to research this question I found one article from the right that showed deep concern about Trump’s plan: https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2024/nov/20/deep-state-wants-terminate-constitution/ but I can’t really find much information otherwise.
Fema confiscated weapons during Katrina. This is public knowledge. They aren’t trust worthy.
And for ice, it’s a tough situation because Bidens admin shouldn’t have let them in in the first place. The government caused the issue, they can fix it
No they didn’t. The chief of police of new Orleans instructed his men and the national guard to do so. FEMA has no authority to do any such thing. Then Congress signed a bill to make it illegal for that to ever happen again.
The bill: H.R.5013, S.2599
Note FEMA has no right to do anything on a states soil unless directed to by the states government. That’s why Puerto Rico had such trouble during Hurricane Maria and such. FEMA delivered resources and brought aid, but much of it sat on the runway with no dispersal instructions. So it just sat until orders eventually arrive. In some places pallets of water were sitting there months even past a year later.
The U.S. president claimed the President of Puerto Rico was an idiot at the time, which got him called a fool, as he is the President of Puerto Rico.
It may seem strange to be advised to look at Florida for answers, but Hurricane response in Florida has been used, reused, and reconstructed to make it better many times. Every state/territory should have their governor delegate someone to pull up their Hurricane response plan and compare it to their own and revise anything needed to better it for their location.
I see you’ve just met Kaboom. If your Lemmy client supports it, it would be wise to add a tag for future reference…
Not sure if Jerboa has tags, haven’t looked into it.
And if that doesn’t work, feel free to block me. I’ve blocked others plenty of times.
“Bidens shouldn’t have let it happen”. Come on. Pew research shows immigration rose, but not to some new peak. The world is going to shit due to everything.
I don’t think facts will dissuade you. So here’s a national landmark instead:
Statue of LIBERTY. Hopefully it’ll still be up & relevant in 4 years if we don’t destroy one another…
A poem on a statue isn’t law and often times isn’t good advice for all situations
