Because libre office is not compatible with many others. You can open it sure but there’s no guarantee that opening .doc or .docx will have broken formatting. Not good for those in the academia or workplace where formatting are strictly enforce.

Same. @squizzy, I don’t like microblogging in general either. I was raised in the golden era of forums (the days of phpBB and vBulletin). My twitter account hasn’t been touched for years now.

As an iOS user and long time Firefox user (never switched to chrome in my life) I feel jealous. But one can only hope that we too in the APPLE walled garden won’t be left behind. Though I understand that it would be a long shot. :(

I wholeheartedly support NOT engaging with beehaw. Any instance that supports defederation and censorship is an instance NOT worth supporting. The fediverse is supposed to be a refuge of free speech (within reason of course.) If an instance chose to defederate and isolate itself, it deserves the very same isolation it so wanted.

Tldr; beehaw wants to isolate, then give it the isolation it wants.

I was a bit surprised myself. I’m a lurker on reddit but addicted to lemmy. Can’t explain it. But I’m glad I’m here to witness this. :)

If you have friends from other social media, you can always invite them over, if you have a forum account or facebook, you can also link lemmy.world in the website or signature. :) or just work on posting interesting things to communities here in the hopes that it will get the ball rolling.

I looked around and we have a nosleep here as well though. Admittedly there’s not much in it yet. It would be nice if more people will post here, but it’s only been week 1 of the great migration. I’m staying positive that overtime, communities will move or not, crosspost here. :)

Probably because its name sounds official and it allows quick registration while others need approval (some never approves you).

Turns out it’s the right choice as the admin seems very active in updates and fixes. Lemmy.world also has a more chill homey vibes. At least that’s what I observed so far.
