I need to mention that old school ‘patent medicine’ (ex: snake oil) in the 19th to very early 20th was not destroyed by advancements in actual medicine and education and awareness… it was done by simply banning the patent medicines and forcing others to disclose their ingredients. When buyers of said medicine were aware of the bullshit of old snake oil, they just moved onto another brand of snake oil (which may or may not have been made and sold by the same guy).

If they removed regulations on medicine and legalized many of the old hard drugs we would see a resurgence in patent medicine that caused so many problems in times past. There was actually a reason why people who avoided all medication in the 19th century actually had a longer than average life expectancy.

I played Cyberpunk 2077 many times and in the game they have vehicle quickhacks that allow you to stop a car temporarily (emergency break), force the car to full throttle (Floor it), taking control of the car… or making the car blow up with self-destruct.

Now it’s just a game and this can be excused, but at the same time I wondered how the hell could you make a car blow up? Then I realize Tesla cars can burn quite viciously, and the mechanisms of opening the door CAN be jammed. The other shit is probably going to be quite possible soon if not already. Meaning we could see high-tech murders happen by people who find weaknesses in car cybersecurity and exploit it to kill their target, and if they cannot trace where the hacker was or how it would be an unsolvable murder…

Maybe it’s because I am an elder millenial who never owned a car, but only rented cars when I need them, The most I ever used is google maps (now Osmand… which is the superior Open source option!) to find my way. But I never felt the need for anything else other than blindspot detectors (which don’t need to be connected to anything!) to help in lane changing since it makes that task easier. I listen to all my music and stuff on my phone (which is another tracking device I fucking hate) so I don’t even bother with the radio.

The propaganda against universities started as early as the 1950s when the whole ‘communists have overtaken academia’ narrative got started. In the early 2000s when I first got online and discovered right-wing content they were saying that, meaning the beatniks and hippies of the 1960s grew up and took over academic positions in the 70s and 80s. Now it is the 90s and 2000s that they are saying it. In the 1970s it culminated with the Kent State massacre that, at the time, was actually seen as a necessary measure that needed to be taken (this is even though most of the people killed weren’t even protestors or had a history of protesting. They were bystanders who were just in the wrong place at the wrong time).

In the 1950s they said that universities were predominantly communist since the 1920s and they needed to be purged. This is despite the fact that the early 1920s had the First Red Scare in US history that was arguably worse than the Second Red Scare of the 1950s that we are more familiar with. You know how bad the first Red Scare was? There were police officers (yes police!) who argued for some socialist values and the response from the city was to fire entire police departments in one fell swoop and replace them with entirely new people who never interacted with the fired group. I need to mention that these are the people who insist that society would collapse and people would tear each other apart like animals without police… but if they’re showing any socialism? Yeah fuck em’!

You need to remember just how static republican arguments are. They aren’t new or original. They’ve been repeating the same shit for more than 100 years. I’ve seen anti-socialist bashing of Scandanvian countries predating WW1 (even before the modern Scandanvian welfare state even existed). The wording and tone were identical. Even anti-trans and drag queen arguments existed at least since the 1970s, before transgender people were known to the public. I learned this by reading the horrific Turner Diaries novel that was written at the time, where they mentioned drag queens and gay people in the exact same hateful terminology that is mentioned now.

In Canada due to serious price gouging by supermarket retailers have been doing is resulting in MASSIVE food waste (people simply cannot buy the shit anymore, and what do they do? Just throw away tons upon tons of perfectly good food), and what is even more outrageous is that the price for some critical produce is actually so high that in some places there are cases of scurvy, which the company addresses as a big ‘so what? Here are some steps…’ as if it is the most normal thing in the world…

The only time I ever heard of scurvy in my life was when I was reading history books about pirates and old-timey sea travel where long-voyages in times without refrigeration and lack of nutritional understanding meant that the food they ate was seriously lacking in most vitamins, so sailors would get diseases like scurvy that no one living on land could ever get… yet now we’re living in a time that where we are surrounded by vitamin enriched everything and people are getting that crap because they cannot afford it due to gouging and landlords wanting to bring back 19th century slum stuffing…

What is so fucked up is how incredibly ignorant and stupid Trump and his policymaker picks are… like when they talk about how the tarifs would skyrocket the prices of basic imported foods (foods that CANNOT be grown anywhere in the United States) their response was ‘maybe Americans shouldn’t be eating those foods’.

This is fucking insane. I mean are they aware that the only place that coffee can be grown in the entirety of the United States is Hawaii? And I guarantee you, every single bit of coffee grown there will not be anywhere near enough to meet the demand that Americans have. What about chocolate? You like Chocolate? The overwhelming majority of chocolate in the world is grown in West Africa. But that is besides the point. There would be no chocolate for the average American as it would be simply too expensive. Most chocolate on the market today only contains a small bit of chocolate anyway, the other crap is just fat and sugar. After Trump does his tarifs it will be ALL fat and sugar and anything containing real chocolate will be an absolute luxury that no regular American will afford.

I could go on forever. But I am sure you realize just how FUCKED people are going to be. And don’t think for one moment that it is going to be an exclusively American problem. I am a Canadian, but a shitload of food products here are also packaged and manufactured in the United States, meaning that the price those companies, like the Kraft-Heinz (which is the 2nd largest food manfucturer in the world) have to pay for their ingredients will mean that the price for everyone will go up, even if they don’t live in the United States.

And no one is helping you… all telling you to pull yourself up by your own bootstraps.
