People generally start when they’re too young to really understand consequences, and there’s a tiny buzz you experience during the first few cigarettes. I think there’s an aspect of self-harm to the psychology of it as well (and obviously it is self-harm, but we don’t really think of it like cutting or something similar)

Thank you!! It was surprisingly (and slightly worryingly, but hopefully that’s just impostor syndrome) easy. I’ll be teaching a class of Americans German in Germany. I’m also from the US, and it’s the first time I’ll be working specifically with Americans, so I’m hoping it’s easier than it normally is.

This week I: had six days of work, responded to two important emails, had a job interview (I got it!), paid an overdue bill, retrieved my debit card from the bank, went to the dr., and filled my rx.

But I really need to choose my topic for my master’s thesis and email my preferred advisor, so, you know, I’m a failure

My old doctor once gave me an antipsychotic for ADHD, because they thought I was looking for stimulants. It did not help.

My mom was an esl and special education teacher, who raised my audhd siblings and me similarly. My oldest sister is kind of a bad speller, and it turns out she’s straight up dyslexic and my mom taught her how to read and write so that it didn’t matter. Unfortunately she’s dead and nobody in my family knows how she did it.

I saw that episode as a 17 year old who had not yet gotten my period from a family of women who got it like clockwork before their twelfth birthdays. I freaked out because I knew that that had to be my issue, and I felt really awkward about telling my dad.

Gee, it would have been nice if it had occurred to me then, that the big problem most cis people would have with finding that out would not be an awkward conversation. But nope, that took over a decade.

People are making sensationalist headlines about your comment disliking sensationalist headlines, pretending there’s beef. If there were, filtering smorty from showing up in your feed would insulate you from the annoying drama.

I think either way, you dodged a bullet. You don’t have food poisoning or a girlfriend who lies to you, lol.

Pro tip: you’re better off not dating someone who gets rid of their fridge every winter unless you live at mcmurdo. I could see very thoroughly cleaning and unplugging a freezer if you have a lot of space outside (protected from any wildlife) and can rely on it being well under freezing for months, but it’s probably either too cold to work as a fridge or temps will spike to dangerously warm during the day.

What for? There’s no reason to try and force anyone to do anything. It’s all completely pointless because whatever you get out of them will be gone the next day. Plus, how do they collect the people every day? Unless you surprise them every morning somehow, I think most people would just say no, even upon pain of death (potentially suicide) after the first few torture sessions, especially if you know that people have died and they still come back the next day.

You can make plans for the beginning of the day, but you can’t intentionally wake up earlier than you did the first time, so raids or similar tactics are unlikely to work unless you’re targeting someone who originally slept until noon.
