Summary

Donald Trump plans to ban transgender individuals from military service shortly after his inauguration, reversing President Biden’s 2021 policy and expelling about 15,000 serving trans troops.

Critics, including advocacy groups and military experts, warn this move will exacerbate recruitment and retention challenges, harm unit cohesion, and create skill gaps amid existing shortfalls.

The order aligns with Trump’s broader anti-trans agenda, which includes banning gender-affirming care and restricting trans rights nationwide.

Legal challenges are anticipated as the military faces administrative and operational disruptions.

Seriously, pretty much all people I‘ve met who are offended by LGBTQ people have either suppressed desires or are really insecure about their own sexuality in some way.

It’s like that Hungarian minister who constantly attacked gay people until he was found by police at an illegal gay orgy in Brussels (illegal since it was during Covid lockdowns).

Let’s not overshadow the fact that people DO hate us just because they need someone to hate, or because their religion says to, or because their politics says to. Trying to pretty it up or make it “less bad” because they’re all secretly gay doesn’t help.

I detest the “all homophobes are secretly gay” thing so much.

What it’s saying, in effect, is that queer people are responsible for our own oppression. Because if every homophobe is secretly queer, then no straight person can ever be homophobic. If they were, they wouldn’t be straight, by definition.

The only way that argument works is if we’re actually arguing that there is no such as being straight, and that everyone is at least 1% bisexual. There’s some basis for that, especially in studies of ancient cultures and uncontacted tribes. But until we start taking that seriously as an idea (and that is a very, very contentious idea to be taking seriously), this “Only queer people can be homophobic” nonsense has got to stop.

I don’t think anybody thinks that only queer folk can be homophobic, but it does happen quite often. Usually it’s the fault of heteronormative indoctrination, religious or otherwise (which is also usually the problem when straight folk are homophobic)

There’s also some women that were so traumatised by experience with men that they are afraid trans women will attack women, and creeps will claim they are trans to elude punishment. I think this is a real problem, but much rarer than it may seem, and it’s not a good enough reason to say that trans women don’t/shouldn’t exist. Maybe it’s because I’m too privileged to understand

Please provide a source to 1 instance in the history of the world where an abuser used cross-dressing as the primary way to gain access to his victims…we’ll wait.

Yes, people are scared of this. But, only bc GOP leaders tell them to be. It’s a made up fear that cannot be legitimized like you are trying to do

I’m not trying to legitimise anything, but when I try to convince such people, I usually fail, that’s why I brought it up. Yes it’s weaponising fear and it’s the same irrational beliefs that make people racist or nazi, and a lot of other things, I think

Regarding the sources, I think it’s stories like this or this that makes them worry, don’t know if sources are credible, first one looks pretty fake.

            nitpick

            besides, I didn’t say

used cross-dressing as the primary way

it can be opportunistic, not modus operandi, I only think that this is realistic because statistically speaking there are enough abusers on the planet so that at least some could try doing that
