this is a example search for example when i search [Something] lemmy it will show the reddit link even tho its not reddit releated Update: Finally its the second result lol am prob gonna delete this due to some drama… yeah hello from mastodon or whatever
I don’t see the problem with this search result. You searched for Lemmy clients and the first link gives a list of Lemmy clients for Android. It happens to be on Reddit but it does match your search.
The problem is why is reddit at the top it’s not lemmy which is lemmies competitor
Because Lemmy hasn’t made it to the top yet. Be patient
On DDG it is, fwiw
But the thread is discussing the thing you searched for.
but its reddit
Who fucking cares, dude? The thread was about Lemmy clients. That is still a very relevant result to your question. If the first result was a thread on Steam’s forums I wouldn’t care either as long as it’s a good thread relevant to your question.

it does match my search but its reddit and lemmy’s biggest competitor is reddit (the best i can describe it)
Google doesn’t have any reason to think you care about competition based on your query. You asked for a specific bit of information and it showed you websites with that information.
If you want a result from a specific website, you need to specify that in your search query. Otherwise, stop complaining about getting the answer you were looking for.
Google paid good money to index Reddit, so OFC they’re going to put their thumb on the scale when sorting the results.
Yep. Here is what I get in duckduckgo:
Google paid money to make other engines stop indexing reddit.
Ik
Google made a deal with Reddit so they artificially push their results to the top. I don’t even know if Google indexes any of the fediverse sites. The mere fact that the fediverse is fragmented probably means hits are spread across sites, lowering the results in the rankings (ten sites with one customer click thru vs one site with ten customer click thrus).
they index lemmy.world the most
They don’t
You are using Google which only prioritizes companies they have deals with.
Don’t use Google if you want real answers
I know it’s a circumvention of the issue, and at times annoying, but you can add
-site:reddit.com
to the search to rule out a site, iircOr you can just use a different, less biased search engine.
Also, there is great info at lemmyapps.com and the Lemmy Apps Directory.
alr
Use a better search engine?
Like what yahoo?
Bye bye google, hello duckduckgo or SearXNG.
Google pays reddit to show their results in priority.
ik
Meh. Lemmy’s ephemeral, and there’s no way Google can tell that a link on lemmya.ml and on lemmyb.xxx are actually the same Lemmy post.
tbh, this is a lemmy issue.

Fr reddit sucks it’s soo toxic
It will take some time before the algorithm picks it up.
Reddit bills search engines for scraping the site now, and Google is the only one that’s agreed to pay.
Use another search engine and you’ll get less reddit results.
Use -reddit.com to remove Reddit from your search results.
Use site: to limit results to a specific site. For example, adding site:lemmy.world will limit all search results to lemmy.world.
You should actually use
-site:reddit.com
to remove only Reddit links. Just using-reddit.com
will also remove any pages that link to Reddit, which would filter out a lot of non-Reddit results. You’re right. My mistake.
I also use a extension to hide it
When I searched Lemmy Clients first result was a Wiki page, second was the actual join lemmy page, and the third being a Lemmy you should know post about clients
Because I need more links here’s another one with client directory from the lemmy post and this one is me keyboard mashing
It’s worth “comparison shopping” with search engines. Run some common queries on multiple engines and see which ones fit what you like. Google takes up a lot of the mindshare for sure, but there are absolutely other options that will probably surprise you with how good they are.
