I’ve seen a lot of FOSS purists before, but this guy has gotta be the Linux equivalent of one of those dudes who lives in the forest with a tin hat so the guberment can’t read his thoughts.
The difference would be that RMS is extremely well-versed in computer technology. He understands the problems with non-free software.
Someone with his knowledge could choose to disregard those issues for convenience, but Stallman is willing to make great sacrifices.

What makes you think the fake screenshot is Mastodon? I don’t use it so I don’t know about fonts and colors and margins matching up, but I’d at least expect there to be an instance name attached to the username.
Also, RMS is certainly not the kind of guy to use social media at all, libre and federated or not.

Personal pet theory that may also play into it: Trans people are also often in information security roles. Potentially, because when you have to hide your real identity, you start to get good at it.
And Rust also has various security benefits, especially when compared to C, but also when compared to garbage-collected languages (race conditions are largely prevented).also because on the Internet you can just be the opposite gender and not have to correct everyone all the time, or just be anonymous and not have a gender

Stallman is one of the world’s most prolific C developers, so that part of the joke may be just making fun of his (likely) reluctance to adopt Rust, which is often recommended to C programmers.
